Coated for Sun

Our team provides spall and coping repair, delivering cooler, grippy decks for homes and long-wearing outdoor surfaces for both residential and commercial projects. Backed by 12 years in business and a 2-year workmanship warranty against peeling and delamination, we've completed over 1,187 projects, from a covered back porch to a full pool surround with steps and a spa curb.

From routing soil-movement cracks to the last pass of grit-loaded clear coat, our team handles every detail. Serving Riverside and neighboring Villa Park, Diamond Bar and Yorba Linda, we coat outdoor concrete so it stays cooler underfoot, holds its color and grips when it is wet.

Outdoor Concrete Systems

An outdoor slab needs a UV-stable coating, and plain epoxy is not one. Aromatic epoxy ambers and chalks once direct sun reaches it, which is why the garage-kit patios we grind off in Eastvale and El Sobrante had usually yellowed within a season. Every deck we coat in Claremont, Norco or Woodcrest is topped with a UV-stable aliphatic polyaspartic clear coat that will not amber, whether it faces the pool or the street.

Outdoor concrete also moves more than a garage slab, because heat, cool nights and irrigation water swell and shrink the soil under it. On hillside lots in Diamond Bar and the foothill homes of San Antonio Heights, that movement is why patio cracks reopen and why the coating has to flex with the slab.

Kathy's pool surround on a half-acre lot near the citrus groves in Villa Park was a sun-baked pool deck that was hot underfoot, slick when wet and spalling at the coping. We repaired the spalls first, then recommended a light-colored textured polyaspartic that stays cooler and grips wet feet, finished in a tan quartz texture over the pool surround, about 380 sq ft. The pool surround was an estimated $2,600 to $3,900 and took an estimated 1 to 2 days, coping repair included. The result Kathy describes: bare feet on the deck in August, and no more slips at the steps.

Heat Underfoot

A lighter, textured coating is the most comfortable choice for a deck people cross barefoot, because pale colors reflect more sun than dark ones and texture keeps skin off a glassy surface. Dark charcoal flake is the wrong color for a pool deck in Yorba Linda or North Tustin, where summer afternoons regularly push past the 90s. We bring tan, sand and light gray quartz chips to every Villa Park and Diamond Bar site visit so you can set them on the hot concrete yourself.

Thin coatings soften and lift at full afternoon temperature, so our basecoats run 80% to 100% solids by volume, and that film does not shrink thin as it cures in the sun.

Chlorine and Grip

A pool deck coating has to grip when wet and shrug off chlorine and salt, and texture plus the right clear coat does both. We load the final coat with aluminum oxide or polymer grit for a 0.60 to 0.85 DCOF, the grip we spec on every pool deck from the Country Estates in Diamond Bar to the Lemon Heights ranch homes in North Tustin. Quartz texture grips best on the steps, the coping edge and the walk to the spa, where most slips happen.

Splash-out with chlorine or salt water does not etch polyaspartic the way it eats into bare concrete, so a Canyon Crest or Wood Streets patio in Riverside rinses clean with a hose.

Every Deck Includes

Surface prep
Mechanical diamond grinding to a CSP 2 to CSP 3 profile on every floor, never acid etching
Dry film thickness
15 to 35 mils on a multi-coat flake system, 40 to 120 mils on high-build and self-leveling floors
Basecoat solids
80% to 100% solids by volume, so the coat does not shrink thin as it cures
Topcoat
UV-stable aliphatic polyaspartic clear coat that will not amber in the sun through an open garage door
Moisture testing
Every slab tested; above 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours it gets a moisture-mitigating epoxy primer
Hot-tire resistance
Rated for tire contact heat from 140°F to 180°F
Slip resistance
0.60 to 0.85 DCOF with aluminum oxide or polymer grit in the clear coat
Hardness
75 to 85 Shore D, so a dropped wrench or a jack stand does not gouge it
Compressive strength
8,000 to 12,000 PSI, well above the 3,000 to 4,000 PSI of the slab underneath
VOC content
0 to 50 g/L, inside South Coast AQMD limits
Walk-on time
4 to 8 hours on polyaspartic, 18 to 24 hours on 100% solids epoxy
Park-on time
24 to 36 hours on polyaspartic, 72 to 96 hours on 100% solids epoxy

Cracks and Spalls

Cracks are routed and filled before a deck is coated, because a coating over an open crack simply shows the crack again. We chase each crack with a grinder, fill it with a flexible patch and grind it flush, then the textured broadcast hides the repair line. Spalled coping and pitted edges are rebuilt as part of the prep inside the deck job, which is how the spalls at Kathy's coping in Villa Park were handled.

Mistakes We Avoid

The most common pool deck failure is plain epoxy laid outdoors, and the second is a coating rolled over a slab that was only pressure washed. The mistakes we design out of every outdoor job:

  • No acid etching: acid opens the surface unevenly and leaves residue under the coat, so we grind instead.
  • No interior epoxy outdoors: only UV-stable polyaspartic goes on uncovered concrete in Riverside County sun.
  • No smooth finish at the water: every pool deck gets grit or quartz texture.
  • No coating over wet concrete: the deck is dried and checked for moisture before the first coat.

A patio, porch or pool deck coating in Riverside is typically estimated at $1,200 to $4,000 for 200 to 400 sq ft, and deck size, crack and coping repair, and the texture you choose move the price most.

Most Villa Park and Yorba Linda pool surrounds we price land in the middle of the patio range, while a failed DIY deck paint that has to be ground off typically adds an estimated $800 to $3,000 before the new system goes down. California caps a home improvement deposit at $1,000 or 10% of the contract, whichever is less, and we never ask for more.

These deck and patio prices are estimates and are subject to change. Your written quote after we walk the deck sets the final price and the schedule, and it depends on the square footage, the crack and coping repairs, and the finish you pick.

Outdoor Materials Compared

UV-stable polyaspartic is the system we install on uncovered decks, a quartz broadcast is the grippiest choice for wet zones, and a penetrating stain with a sealer suits a patio that only needs color.

If the patio is mostly shade and you want color without a coating, our concrete staining and sealing service is the lighter option, the route we took on a faded back patio of about 340 sq ft in San Antonio Heights. For wet rooms beside the pool, a quartz broadcast floor carries the same grip indoors for an estimated $2,000 to $5,400 per floor.

Why Choose Us

The crew that grinds your deck is the crew that coats it, and our lead installer times every batch so the texture lands before the resin skins over in the heat. In 12 years and more than 1,187 projects we have learned that outdoor jobs fail at the prep, so we grind every slab and never acid etch.

Service Areas

We coat patios and pool decks across a 45-mile radius of Riverside, with frequent outdoor work on Villa Park estate lots, Diamond Bar hillside pool decks and foothill patios in San Antonio Heights. Victoria Grove and Lake Hills in El Sobrante, Eastvale Square and the hillside cul-de-sacs of Yorba Linda are on the regular route too.

Deck Coating Questions

How much does a pool deck coating cost in Riverside?

Most patio and pool deck coatings are typically estimated at $1,200 to $4,000 for 200 to 400 sq ft, and your written quote sets the final price.

Will a coated pool deck be hot under bare feet?

A light, textured polyaspartic stays noticeably cooler than dark flake, so tan, sand or light gray blends are what we recommend for Yorba Linda and Villa Park pool decks.

Is a coated deck slippery when wet?

No, we add grit to the clear coat for a 0.60 to 0.85 DCOF, and quartz texture on the steps and coping.

How long until we can use the pool again?

Most decks take an estimated 1 to 2 days to coat, and polyaspartic is typically walkable 4 to 8 hours after the last coat.

Why not use regular epoxy outdoors?

Plain epoxy ambers and chalks in direct sun, so only a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat goes on an uncovered deck.

What deposit do you take?

Our deposit never exceeds $1,000 or 10% of the contract, whichever is less, as California law requires.
