Walter's older house on a foothill lot above Euclid Avenue in San Antonio Heights had a cracked tile laundry and a pool bath that stayed wet. We pulled the tile, ground the slab and laid an epoxy-quartz double broadcast, gray and white quartz, across the laundry, mud room and pool bath, about 380 sq ft, then sealed it under a textured topcoat. Walter's floor was an estimated $3,200 to $5,000 and took an estimated 2 to 3 days, with the pool bath back in use the morning after the topcoat. The result is a floor that grips with wet feet and has no grout lines left to stain.

What a Quartz Broadcast System Is

A quartz broadcast system is colored quartz sand thrown by hand into wet epoxy until the resin can take no more, then locked under clear coats. Done twice, it becomes a double broadcast about as thick as a nickel, and the quartz granules, not the resin, take the wear. That is why quartz is chosen for wear and grip first, with color a close second.

How We Install a Quartz Floor, Step by Step

A residential quartz floor takes an estimated 2 to 3 days, and each day has one job.

  1. Day one, prep: tile and thinset off, then Mechanical diamond grinding to a CSP 2 to CSP 3 profile on every floor, never acid etching, so the binder coat grips bare concrete.
  2. Day one, first broadcast: a 100% solids epoxy binder rolled out, then quartz broadcast to refusal while it is wet.
  3. Day two, second broadcast: excess quartz swept and vacuumed, then a second binder coat and a second broadcast for density.
  4. Day two or three, topcoat: a UV-stable aliphatic polyaspartic clear coat that will not amber in the sun through an open garage door, rolled at the thickness that sets the texture.

The common mistake on DIY quartz is a single thin broadcast with too little binder. The loose sand scuffs off within a year, and bare resin shows through at every doorway.

Texture and Slip Resistance

Texture is tuned in the topcoat, and a quartz floor typically lands at 0.60 to 0.85 DCOF with aluminum oxide or polymer grit in the clear coat. One topcoat leaves a sandpaper feel for boots in a wet garage, while two topcoats round the grains over for bare feet in a pool bath.

  • Bare feet: two clear coats, fine texture, comfortable to stand on at the shower door.
  • Shoes and boots: one clear coat, coarser texture, best for mud rooms and garage entries.
  • Mixed: coarse at the door, finer in the room, set by how heavily each coat is rolled.

What Every Quartz Floor Includes

Surface prep
Mechanical diamond grinding to a CSP 2 to CSP 3 profile on every floor, never acid etching
Dry film thickness
15 to 35 mils on a multi-coat flake system, 40 to 120 mils on high-build and self-leveling floors
Basecoat solids
80% to 100% solids by volume, so the coat does not shrink thin as it cures
Topcoat
UV-stable aliphatic polyaspartic clear coat that will not amber in the sun through an open garage door
Moisture testing
Every slab tested; above 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours it gets a moisture-mitigating epoxy primer
Hot-tire resistance
Rated for tire contact heat from 140°F to 180°F
Slip resistance
0.60 to 0.85 DCOF with aluminum oxide or polymer grit in the clear coat
Hardness
75 to 85 Shore D, so a dropped wrench or a jack stand does not gouge it
Compressive strength
8,000 to 12,000 PSI, well above the 3,000 to 4,000 PSI of the slab underneath
VOC content
0 to 50 g/L, inside South Coast AQMD limits
Walk-on time
4 to 8 hours on polyaspartic, 18 to 24 hours on 100% solids epoxy
Park-on time
24 to 36 hours on polyaspartic, 72 to 96 hours on 100% solids epoxy

Rooms That Need Quartz Most

Quartz belongs in any room that sees water, grit and hard wear, and in foothill and ranch homes that usually means the laundry, the mud room, the pool bath and the pool equipment room. Older homes in San Antonio Heights and Claremont often have cracked tile in exactly these rooms, and a quartz floor replaces both the tile and the grout lines.

Ranch homes in Norco and Woodcrest use quartz at the back door, where boots come in off the riding trails and corrals. A hillside garage in Yorba Linda or Villa Park that floods from a sloped driveway or a car-washing station is the other strong case.

Quartz vs Flake vs Solid Epoxy

Quartz wins on grip and wear, flake wins on looks and dust hiding, and a solid color epoxy is the lowest-cost of the three. The table compares them by estimated price, grip and best room.

Floor systemEst. investmentGrip when wetBest room
Quartz broadcast floorEst. $2,000 to $5,400 per floorHighest, tunable textureLaundry, mud room, pool bath
Two-car garage floor, full flake polyasparticEst. $2,800 to $6,200 per garageGood with grit addedDaily garage
One-car garage floor, solid color epoxyEst. $1,500 to $3,600 per garageLow without gritDry storage garage

In the tract garages of El Sobrante and Eastvale, flake is easier to mop because its surface is smoother. Quartz needs a deck brush once in a while, and in return it will not go slick at the washing machine.

Quartz Broadcast Floor Cost in Riverside County

A quartz broadcast floor is estimated at $2,000 to $5,400 for 250 to 450 sq ft, and tile removal, room count and the texture you choose move the price most. Walter's three wet rooms in San Antonio Heights, an estimated $3,200 to $5,000, sit in the middle because the tile and thinset had to come off first.

Small rooms cost more per square foot, because the crew, the grinder and the quartz still have to come out for a 250 sq ft laundry.

Quartz prices above are estimates that can change. The written quote we hand over after measuring and testing your slab sets the final price and the install schedule, and it depends on the tile or coating to remove, the number of rooms and the texture.

Why Homeowners Choose Our Quartz Crew

Our owner reads every moisture test himself, and the same crew grinds, broadcasts and topcoats your floor across our 45-mile radius. Over 1,187 projects and 12 years, we have learned how much binder a wet room needs so the quartz never sheds. Every floor carries our 2-year workmanship warranty against peeling, delamination and hot-tire pickup, along with Coating makers' product warranties, typically 5 to 10 years on professionally installed systems, passed through to you in writing.

Other Coating Materials We Install

For a dry show garage, owners compare quartz with a hand-worked metallic epoxy floor or a full flake chip floor that hides dust between sweeps.

Quartz Floor Service Areas

We install quartz floors across Riverside County and beyond, with wet rooms in San Antonio Heights foothill homes, back entries on Norco horse lots and older laundries in Claremont, plus Eastvale, Diamond Bar and North Tustin on our service area page.

Quartz Floor Questions From Homeowners

How much does a quartz floor cost?

A quartz broadcast floor is estimated at $2,000 to $5,400 for 250 to 450 sq ft, and your written quote sets the final price after we measure.

How long does a quartz floor take?

Most installs take an estimated 2 to 3 days, and you can typically walk on it 4 to 8 hours after the last topcoat.

Is a quartz floor slippery when wet?

No, quartz is the most slip-resistant system we install, typically 0.60 to 0.85 DCOF when wet.

Is quartz hard on bare feet?

A second topcoat rounds the texture over, so a pool bath floor feels like fine sandpaper rather than gravel.

Can you put quartz over my old tile?

We remove the tile and thinset and grind to bare concrete, because coating over tile leaves every grout line to crack through.

Is quartz better than flake for a laundry room?

Yes, for a room that gets wet, because the texture grips and the dense quartz takes cart and appliance wear.

Do you install quartz floors in San Antonio Heights and Norco?

Yes, both are inside our service area, along with Claremont, Woodcrest and the rest of Riverside County.

How big a deposit do you take?

California caps a home improvement deposit at $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less.
